DOUGIE SALT
Dougie Salt joined Uttoxeter Juniors aged 5 and played 3 seasons before being offered a contract at Stoke. It is fair to say that he made an impression right from the start; he was technically advanced, incredibly talented, extremely competitive and as hardworking as anyone. He played as a left winger in his first season scoring 47 goals in 20 games but after terrorising countless defenders decided that he would like to play his U7 season in goal. I am not sure there will ever be another Keeper that will make such an impact on a team or on a league as he did in his U7 season where as-well as being an outstanding shot stopper, he also scored 25 goals. It has been an absolute privilege to coach Doug’s over 3 years but in truth it has just been a pleasure watching him develop. He has every attribute that modern keepers need to have, confidence on the ball, great decision making, and excellent distribution. With his outstanding technical ability and burning desire to win, it was only a matter of time before the academies would come calling and we are absolutely thrilled for him and the Salt family that he finally settled for his boyhood club of Stoke City. Everyone at Uttoxeter Juniors are immensely proud of Dougs and sincerely wish him every success with what will undoubtedly be an outstanding career. He has the football world in his hands and at his feet! - Malcolm Timmins
